Avro Keyboard is most popular Bangla typing, especially using a phonetic keyboard in a computer. Avro Phonetic is an open-source variant of its Windows version that works even on macOS. In this post, I will provide you with a complete step-by-step guide on how to set up and use Avro Keyboard on Mac.
Download and Install Avro Keyboard on MAC
First of all, download the latest version of iAvro for Mac OS and install it on your PC. OmicronLab offers a complete version of the Avro keyboard for Mac OS, which is called iAvro.
- Download iAvro: https://www.omicronlab.com/iavro-download.html
- Once downloaded, double-click the iAvro.dmg file and install it.
Add iAvro to Input Methods
Open System Settings: Click on the Apple menu and select System Settings.
Go to Keyboard Settings: Select Keyboard, then navigate to the Input Sources tab.

Add Bangla Keyboard: Click on the + button to add a new keyboard layout.

Scroll through the list to find Bangla (phonetic). Add Avro Keyboard to your input sources.

You can see the Avro Keyboard in the list of all input sources.

Switch Between Keyboards:
You can now easily switch between English and Bangla by clicking the keyboard icon in the menu bar or using the keyboard shortcut (usually Control + Space
).

Phonetic Typing: Avro Phonetic works by converting the Roman (English) characters you type into their Bangla equivalents. For example:
Type “ami” and it will become “আমি.”.
Type “tumi” and it will become “তুমি.”.

Typing in Bangla on a Mac is easy, whether you want to use Avro Phonetic or the default macOS keyboard layout. You can write in Bangla very fast if you follow the steps I described here. If you are having an issue with the switching of keyboards, then please check if your keyboard input methods are properly configured in System Preference.
